Personality:
If there is one word that would describe 2B in all facets of her personality, it's stubborn. No matter what aspect is being discussed, there is definite stubbornness in it. Though, stubbornness is not always a bad thing. In some cases, it can even be the difference between life and death... and not always her own.
YoRHa unit No. 2 Type B - or "2B", for short - is an android, created as part of Project YoRHa to fight against the machines for the sake of humanity. All YoRHa units are programmed with a specific personality, and 2B is no exception. To some, she may come off as distant or cold; she is entirely focused on accomplishing her goal and determined to a fault, and there is no room for shirking duties or complaining about running errands for the Resistance, as even fetch quests are important to completing their mission. Poor 9S, her assigned partner, takes the brunt of this coldness, as he is near constantly asking questions or making small talk about all sorts of things - especially things that may not exactly apply to the current mission objective, which she is quick to reprimand him for. If it doesn't have some benefit for her current objective, there is no point in it... and this includes emotions, causing her to invoke her catchphrase of "emotions are prohibited" whenever 9S tries to get too close or chatty with her.
As a Battler unit, 2B is programmed to fight now and ask questions later. Frankly, she doesn't even ask that many questions - she isn't a Scanner unit, and hasn't been programmed with the same level of curiosity, so why would she? She's meant to fight things, not poke at the unsolved mysteries of the human world. Everything that she does, she does with flawless precision, though honestly the further canon goes along, the more ruthless and reckless she gets. With the Bunker gone, she no longer has the luxury of just resetting her personal data and consciousness into a new 2B body, and she knows this. Yet, she still runs herself quite literally ragged trying to accomplish her goals more than once after the Bunker is destroyed - yet again, her stubbornness comes into play.
Though 2B professes that "emotions are prohibited", she actually has quite a lot of them herself and just keeps them tightly bottled up. The reason she initially uses for this is that, per YoRHa orders, emotions are prohibited so as not to sway the results of a mission or the entire war itself. While this is true, it isn't the exact reason that she so carefully tamps down her emotions. 2B's true designation is actually YoRHa unit No. 2 Type E, or "Executioner" - meaning that, under the guise of a Battler unit, she covertly eliminates any YoRHa units that have either deserted or have gained illegal access to classified information. But the real tragedy of the situation is that her targets haven't just been a variety of other YoRHa units - she's been nigh-permanently assigned to follow and execute 9S in the inevitability that he comes across something he isn't supposed to see or know about. So far, she has had to execute 9S coming up near 50 times - sometimes he goes quietly, sometimes he puts up a fight, but each and every time he loses the memories of who he has grown to be in that iteration, resetting back to what are basically factory defaults. It's never been easy for her, but with each iteration that she follows, she just gets more and more endeared to him, and the hurt just gets worse and worse. Prohibiting her own emotions isn't just following protocol, it's practically the only way that she can cope with repeatedly killing him and taking away his memories of their time together. If shutting away her emotions is the cross she has to bear for her sins, she'll gladly do it. It becomes enough for her to remain physically with him but emotionally at a distance, despite craving that emotional closeness.
2B's emotional bottle can only hold so much, however, and occasionally it does spill over when she just can't take it anymore. She has cried upon having to execute 9S again, and has screamed in anger and anguish at Adam for kidnapping 9S and hurting him. She gets jealous when 9S gets invested in helping another female android that has amnesia, making some very pointed comments in a tone that she normally wouldn't use and that leaves 9S staggering to a halt for a minute, completely confused. But when it truly comes down to it, the deluge of emotions culminates into one solid emotion: extreme protectiveness over 9S. While the aforementioned jealousy stems a bit from that, it's a lot worse off by the concert ending that extends past Ending E. The Pods rebuild and revive her, only for her to find out that 9S's personal data is gone and he is no longer capable of rebooting - basically, dead. As a result, she loses it a little - with the Bunker and the rest of YoRHa gone, they're all that's left and all that each other has left. In stubbornness spurred by emotion, she literally runs herself into forced shutdown for maintenance more than once and physically damages herself just trying to find a way to restore his personal data. She should rightfully take more care with her body since repairs are no longer so easily obtained and her back-up bodies are gone, but she is so determined to save 9S that her personal safety is no longer a concern.
Despite her tough and chilly exterior, 2B is actually quite soft on the inside. There are those that she does genuinely care for, and those precious few that fit that category reap the benefits of someone incredibly dedicated and willing to help with no fanfare or expectation of acknowledgement. She makes an effort not to show it, but despite her best efforts, deep down she is still prone to moments of sentimentality - she agreed with practically no argument to 9S's desire to go shopping when the war is over, and she took pictures of flowers for her operator, 6O, as 6O was unable to leave the Bunker and come to Earth to see them for herself. She is also very, fiercely protective of those she considers close. Admittedly, 9S gets the majority of this protectiveness, but it also extends to her other fellow androids. When infected with a logic virus, she hijacked the controls of 9S's flight unit, sending him off course and supposedly to safety while she served as a decoy - and on top of that, she ran herself all the way to a location with the least amount of android signals while heavily infected and barely able to move or fight just so that she would contaminate as few androids as possible. When faced with her inevitable end, she met with A2 - a rogue YoRHa unit that had deserted a handful of years prior and was thus a wanted target - and entrusted her memories to the other android via uploading them to her sword, wishing that she would protect the future in her stead.
Abilities & Skills: As an android, 2B is not held by the same limitations as a human body. She has an infinitely-generating power source to run all of her systems - there is no need for food or for rest. Her only limitations are that she needs water and regular maintenance (both hardware and software) to keep her systems running at optimal efficiency. While she doesn't have a human's immune system and is therefore immune to bacteria, viral strains and diseases, she is not immune to computer viruses and the like. Androids are able to modify themselves by installing varieties of "chips", which can do anything from adding specific information to their visual displays to speeding up their nanomachine healing if they take damage during battle. All androids are capable of recording audio and visual data and not only storing said data, but also transmitting it to other androids. YoRHa androids are also able to be revived in a new body, should their current body become too damaged to continue functioning, so long as their personal data has been uploaded to the Bunker prior to the cease of function. Or, at least, it used to be possible. When the Bunker was destroyed, the storage server went with it, and therefore 2B's current body is the only body she gets.
Though 2B's designation is actually an Executioner unit, she masquerades as a Battler unit so as not to rouse suspicion. Functionally, she seems to work the same as actual Battler units, which are all-purpose combat units made by combining data from the now-obsolete Attacker and Gunner units, though Executioner units are more powerful than Battler units. As an Executioner unit, she much more frequently utilizes her anti-YoRHa mode, which allows her to complete her true duty of executing any YoRHa members that have deserted or have illegally gained access to classified information. With Project YoRHa completely destroyed, however, her function as an Executioner unit is no longer necessary.
2B has incredible physical strength, which isn't abnormal for most androids. One of the supplemental novellas shows that even an H-type ("Healer") unit, which is built for repairs and maintenance, potentially has the strength to break a hole in a glass window simply by trying to squish a bug with her fingertip. If a Healer unit is capable of that, imagine what a Battler unit - actually intended for combat - can do. Her strikes with a blade can cut through even the toughest of metal, and she's been shown to move large, heavy cubes of stone and/or metal with ease. Despite weighing in at 148.8kg thanks to an extremely reinforced body intended for taking blows in battle, she is quite agile and capable of not only dodging enemy attacks with ease, but also double-jumping in mid-air.
Like all androids, 2B has the ability to self-destruct in order to cause massive damage to any enemies around her. This does not kill her, but it does deal significant damage to her, leaving her unable to function properly until her system reboots.
Unlike all androids, though, she - and all other YoRHa units - contain a Black Box, which acts as both their power source and memory storage, and grants them massively increased capabilities over their non-YoRHa counterparts. It also serves as a sort of homing beacon, and so long as the signal isn't weak or offline (dead), she can track another YoRHa unit's Black Box signal to find exactly where they are. Black Boxes are dangerous, however: they can be detonated, either on command by the android themselves or by coming into direct physical contact with another Black Box, which creates a blast akin to a nuclear explosion, destroying the bodies of the android(s) and anything nearby in the process. Thankfully, the Black Boxes are normally stored within an android's chassis, so detonation in either sense cannot be accidental. In reality, the Black Boxes are actually made from machine lifeform power cores - meaning that their "hearts" and "brains" are no different from the very enemies they are programmed to fight. But, that is one of the larger secrets of Project YoRHa.
Inventory/Companions: The swords Virtuous Treaty and Cruel Blood Oath.
Choice: Turnskin (Arctic Fox)
Reason: As 2B's true designation is YoRHa No.2 Type E ("Executioner") and she is assigned to monitor and - if necessary - execute 9S, who is being apped as a Puca, I can't resist making her a fox to 9S's rabbit. It's too good to pass up and I'm symbolism garbage. Aside from that, Turnskin have a pack instinct, and it fits well to 2B's protectiveness and possessiveness in regards to 9S. I'm also choosing Monster over Witch because I'm interested in the physical changes that a Monster undergoes. Androids are inorganic life forms, and suddenly becoming partially organic will trigger an adjustment struggle that frankly would be more fun to play out than taking the Witch route.
